Alexander Yulish
Alexander Yulish is an American artist, born in New York in 1975, who lives and works in Los Angeles. Trained in fine art at Connecticut College, he improvises large gestural paintings in which abstraction and human presence interpenetrate. Lines, fields of color, and impasto bring submerged figures, narratives, and psychological tensions to the surface.
Lines, fields of color, and impasto produce images that initially seem entirely abstract. Sustained looking, however, reveals figures, psychological spaces, and fragments of narrative. Harmony and discord, order and chaos, tenderness and violence coexist within the same movement, giving every canvas lyrical tension.
Yulish has had solo exhibitions at ACE Gallery in Los Angeles, AP Space in New York, and Trinity in London. His work is held in the collection of Museo Jumex in Mexico City. Through scale and urgency, his paintings envelop the viewer and invite an inward experience: ambitious abstraction whose richness unfolds slowly over time.
