Cécile Plaisance

Cécile Plaisance is a French photographic artist, born in Paris in 1968, who lives and works mainly between Brussels and Paris. After an initial career in finance, media, and technology, she devoted herself fully to photography. Her masterful use of lenticular printing questions the representation and freedom of women by allowing the image to change with the viewer’s angle.

Barbie, cinematic icons, fashion archetypes, and religious figures allow her to question the construction of femininity, desire, social norms, and freedom. Her masterful use of lenticular printing has become a signature: the image changes as the viewer moves, playing between revelation and concealment, appearance and truth.

Exhibited from Paris to New York, Miami, London, Geneva, and Hong Kong, Plaisance is represented in significant private, corporate, and institutional collections. Her work turns looking into an active experience. Glamorous, ironic, and engaged, it asserts a femininity that is complex, powerful, and free, with an immediately memorable visual presence.
