Géraldine Neuwirth
Geraldine Neuwirth is an American artist, born in 1941, who lives and works in New York. After attending American University, she trained in Los Angeles with UCLA artist and professor Martin Lubner. Initially figurative, she turned toward abstraction built through layers of drawing, painting, scribbling, collage, and cut forms, balancing deliberate chaos with personal harmony.
Her vocabulary is built through layers of drawing, painting, scribbling, collage, and shaped elements. From this deliberate chaos emerges a personal order in which forms seem to dance, float, and converse. Childhood memories of theater rehearsals inform her sense of a world within a world, visible only in fragments.
Her works on paper have expanded in volume to become true wall constructions. Exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, and galleries across the United States, Neuwirth received special recognition from the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Her work is held by collections including the TOTAL Museum of Contemporary Art in South Korea. It combines maturity, rhythm, and freedom.
