Ingrid Sterling

Ingrid Sterling is a South African sculptor, born in 1960, who lives and works in London. She came to the British capital in the 1990s to study sculpture and placed the human form at the center of her practice. Bronze, stainless steel, resin, and repurposed materials allow her to explore movement, personality, luxury, desire, and representations of the body.

For female bodies she often favors bronze, whose continuity conveys fluidity, strength, and sensuality. Male figures more often employ stainless steel and bold accents of color. She also combines resin, luxury objects, and repurposed materials, creating works that question social status, desire, consumption, and representations of the body.

Her sculptures are held in collections in Australia, the United States, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Bold without losing elegance, her practice turns the silhouette into narrative. Each piece has theatrical presence and a distinct personality, capable of becoming the focal point of a collection or architectural space.
