Johanan Herson
Johanan Herson is an Israeli-Canadian artist, born in 1950, raised in Canada, and based in Israel, where he has lived and worked for more than forty years. A painter, textile artist, and actor, he developed a language shaped by both cultures. Acrylic condenses line, color, and space into warm urban landscapes, while tapestry extends the painterly gesture through texture.
His acrylic paintings transform urban landscapes, crowds, birds, and daily scenes into colorful, rhythmic, and warm compositions. He also developed an original approach to tapestry and “soft art” at Jerusalem’s Art Nova Studio, where he served as resident artist and artistic director. Texture extends the painterly gesture and adds a tactile presence.
Awarded for his art from childhood onward, Herson has exhibited in Israel, Europe, and the United States. His textile works have been commissioned by major companies and acquired for private collections. His art combines narrative, color, and optimism in a highly personal urban vision that is immediately recognizable and intensely alive.
