Patrick Rubinstein
Patrick Rubinstein is a French artist, born in Paris in 1960, where he lives and works. A pioneer of “Kinetic Op Art,” he combines Pop figuration, musical culture, and optical illusion. Shaped by cinema, British rock, and American culture, he builds images that replace one another as the viewer moves, turning looking into active participation.
His process uses images cut into strips, assembled on relief structures, and folded. According to the viewer’s position, one image disappears, another emerges, and a third may arise from their overlap. The viewer therefore becomes an active participant. Rubinstein’s frequent use of gold leaf adds another form of movement, as the surface changes with the intensity and direction of light.
Represented by galleries worldwide, his work is held in the collections of the POPA Museum in Switzerland, the Marciano Foundation in Los Angeles, and the Copelouzos Museum in Athens. His creations unite technical virtuosity, popular culture, and spectacular visual experience.
