Shay Kun
Shay Kun is an Israeli-American artist, born in Israel in 1974, who lives and works in New York. Trained at the Bezalel Academy and holding an MA from Goldsmiths College in London, he developed a Hyper-Surrealist style. His landscapes combine Romantic tradition, digital imagery, consumer objects, and contemporary signs in seductive scenes where the sublime remains deliberately fragile.
His paintings combine landscapes inspired by the Hudson River School with hot-air balloons, tears, slums, and traces of the artificial world. Romantic natural beauty meets disruption, video games, war photography, and mass culture. This collision produces images that are seductive yet faintly unsettling, where the sublime always remains fragile.
Kun has exhibited in New York, London, Berlin, Miami, Chicago, Tel Aviv, and international events including the 51st Venice Biennale. His work questions how we perceive and consume images. Painterly virtuosity attracts the eye, while ambiguity makes each piece complex, memorable, and distinctly contemporary.
