Yaacov Agam
Yaacov Agam was an Israeli artist, born in Rishon LeZion in 1928, who lived and worked in Paris until his death in 2026. Trained at Bezalel and later in Zurich with Johannes Itten, he became one of the great pioneers of Kinetic and Op Art. From the 1950s onward, movement, time, and viewer participation stood at the center of his work.
His polymorphic reliefs, transformable sculptures, and “agamographs” alter color and composition as the viewer moves. The image is no longer fixed: it becomes an ever-evolving experience, faithful to his vision of a reality whose only constant is change.
Represented in the collections of MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and many international institutions, Agam was honored with major retrospectives at the Centre Pompidou and the Guggenheim. A museum dedicated to his work opened in Rishon LeZion in 2018. Collecting Agam means acquiring a major landmark in the history of optical and kinetic art.
