Elisa Hudej

Elisa Hudej is an Austrian artist, born in 1987, who lives and works between Vienna and Klagenfurt. After completing two master’s degrees at the University of Vienna, in Journalism and Communication and in Theatre, Film, and Media, she developed her practice at the Free Academy of Fine Arts Carinthia. Her work blends abstraction and figuration through a sensitive play of proximity and distance.

Her work occupies the threshold between figuration and abstraction. Acrylic, oil, charcoal, and chalk interact across surfaces where proximity and distance, abundance and restraint remain in tension. Each creative cycle corresponds to a period of her life and a focused inquiry, producing a deeply personal visual language.

Figures sometimes seem to emerge from the material before dissolving back into it, leaving viewers to complete the narrative. This openness is central to her practice: painting becomes a space for dialogue, memory, and projection. Her works combine physical presence, psychological subtlety, and considerable gestural freedom.
