Stanley Casselman is an American artist, born in Phoenix in 1963, who lives and works in New York. A graduate of Pitzer College, he has explored pure abstraction since the 1980s, allowing light, color, material, and gesture to move between control and chance. His pioneering use of silkscreen mesh gives his surfaces an immediately recognizable depth.

Often working from the reverse side of the screen, Casselman manipulates pigment to capture the energy of a passage, pressure, or flow. Layers, sweeps, and transparencies create sumptuous surfaces that feel spontaneous yet precisely calculated. Through them, he investigates perception, consciousness, and abstraction’s ability to express what language cannot contain.

His work has been presented in contexts connected with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Tampa Museum of Art. It is held in collections including the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Flint Institute of Arts, the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, and Borusan Contemporary.
