Todd Williamson

Todd Williamson is an American artist, born in 1964, who lives and works in Los Angeles. His abstract work extends the legacies of Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting while absorbing the light and space of California culture. Layers of oil, bands of color, and intervals across the surface create a slow, meditative, almost musical vibration.

His structured compositions explore relationships between bands of color, breathing space, rhythm, and chiaroscuro. The paintings can feel quiet and meditative or charged with musical tension. Williamson creates spaces in which the eye slows down, measures nuance, and experiences color as a physical presence.

He has exhibited internationally across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Williamson has received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant, several curatorial awards, and participated in an official collateral event of the 58th Venice Biennale. His work has been shown alongside major artists including Ed Ruscha, Robert Ryman, and Chuck Close. His painting combines institutional recognition, formal elegance, and contemplative depth.
