Nicole Azoulay

Nicole Azoulay is a French painter, born in Paris in 1963, who lives and works in France. After six years of intensive training, she made the small palette knife the signature tool of her practice. Without preparatory drawing, she builds acrylic abstractions in which dense color, layered gestures, relief, and reflection make light appear to emerge directly from the material.

The artist does not simply apply color: she cuts, sculpts, and carves the material until light, vibration, and reflection emerge. Deep reds, radiant yellows, electric blues, and intense violets build abstract landscapes in which the eye may discover architecture, water, or animal forms. This element of discovery keeps every work open and alive.

Shown in Paris, Monaco, Tokyo, Miami, and New York, including at the Carrousel du Louvre and international art fairs, Azoulay is also active on the auction market. Her paintings combine chromatic generosity, tactile relief, and strong decorative presence while retaining the singularity of a wholly hand-made gesture.
